Whales and Dolphins: Will Humanity Put a Stop to This Madness?

dolphin whaleDid you know that the Department of Defense has given the U.S. Navy permission to cover 70% of our oceans with their sonar system? What does this mean for the whales, dolphins and other cetaceans? Lyndia and Lance Leonard have taken this issue on to assist our friends of the sea. Through the military’s use of sonar, noise pollution and the pollution of our oceans, whales, dolphins and other sea creatures are being harmed to point of losing their ability to hear–which in essence means death for these magnificent creatures. The Leonard’s have created three on-line petitions to stop the injuring and killing of these creatures and their humanitarian mission and message is one of urgency. The U.S. Navy is seeking permission to kill, permanently injure, or otherwise seriously harm whales and dolphins more than 31 million times over the next five years throughout Southern California, Hawaii, the Gulf of Mexico, and along the Atlantic Coast, using sonar and other equipment. By law the Fisheries Service has to let the public comment on its preliminary decision. We have until March 11, 2013 to sign this petition (CLICK HERE) and to stop this madness! It has never been more important then right now for all of us to act by signing the petition! Their website (CLICK HERE) and their Facebook(CLICK HERE) page has much information on how you can get involved. I had come here in the first place because of the post that I read, it had talked about a petition for the ocean animals, I had planned on signing the petition, can’t sign what isn’t here. Is there a petition & where is it to sign? I had joined you, thinking maybe that was the petition, but I don’t think it was. This is the post that I had read: via Food Integrity Now

We would like to get 100,000 new signatures on this petition.
We feel this is an urgent and extremely important issue that needs all our attention. Time is of the essence–we have until March 11, 2013.

Let’s stop the U.S. Navy from using sonar on our dolphins, whales, and sea life.

Listen, share and help us stop this madness!

I’m definitely not a fan of harming dolphins, whales and other sealife, but unfortunately the issue is more complicated than that. You need to explain to people WHY the navy is doing this. I don’t know much about this specific project, but having once worked for NAVSEA, I understand the real threat of underwater mines and underwater warfare. It is a tough issue, and hopefully both sides will work toward the best solution.
