Vernon Hershberger and his family own a small family farm in Wisconsin. On June 2, 2010, when the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture showed up at his farm to inspect, he denied them access. He was within his rights. When they showed up again a week or so later with a warrant, he allowed them in. They locked up his food, destroyed his raw milk, and threatened him with huge fines if he disobeyed those orders. Vernon knew he had to do what was right for his family and the many families that relied on the food the farm provided. He broke the rules in an act of civil disobedience to do the right thing! The events that followed would unfold over the course of three years. In the high-profile lawsuit that ensued, Vernon was acquitted on 3 out of 4 criminal charges. The 4th count is currently being appealed. To hear Vernon Hershberger’s amazing story, click on the link below:
Note to our listeners: A month or so before the 5-day jury trial, there was a fire at the Hershberger’s farm that destroyed his farm equipment, buildings and 1,400 chickens. The community is rallying in support of this family and assisting to raise money to rebuild their farm.
