Deformities, Infertility, Disease: GMO Animal Feed

Danish pig farmer, Ib Pedersen, knew something was not quite right with his pigs. He was seeing lots of diarrhea, agitation, lack of appetite and worse–deformities, abortions and infertility.  He decided to try something different and changed their diet from GM (genetically modified) pig feed to conventional pig feed. (Full Interview Here) Genetically modified soy, one of the ingredients in the pig feed, is modified to withstand huge doses of Glyphosate (the active ingredient in RoundUp). The RoundUp kills the weeds but does not kill the soy plant. However, the glyphosate gets into the cells of the soy and is systemic–it cannot be washed off. Glyphosate has been declared by the World Health Organization as a probable carcinogen, is a known endocrine disruptor, a mineral chelator and causes disbiosis (an imbalance of good and bad bacteria in the gut).

Within  a day or two of switching to non-GM feed, the diarrhea stopped (which had killed several of his pigs in the past), the pigs became calmer and the sows began producing more milk–and that was just the start of the changes he would observe in his pigs.  In one month he noticed that the older sows which had never achieved and weaned more than 10 to 11 piglets per liter were suddenly weaning 14 strong pigs. He also found that the sows were in heat again in a shorter amount of time and ready to be inseminated. When they were fed the GMO pig feed, it would take several more days for them to be in heat–which would always result in fewer pigs the next time. The sows being fed the non-GMO feed were having fewer abortions and had a higher conception rate. Pedersen further observed more deformities in his pigs that were fed GM soy. His pigs also had more ulcers which he attributes to their consumption of GM feed.

Another reason that Pedersen’s studies are so significant is that pigs’ stomachs and reproductive systems are similar to humans. The amounts, or levels, of glyphosate Pedersen measured in the GM feed was lower than the levels that are allowed here in the United States.  When you consider that 80-90% of the food in our mainstream grocery store is genetically modified, could glyphosate be a contributing factor to the declining fertility rate in this country. Glyphosate has been found in our bodies, water, soil, food, breast milk and just recently in childhood vaccines. The U.S. fertility rate fell to the lowest point since record keeping started more than a century ago, according to statistics released by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in August 2016. Also, The United States has a higher infant mortality rate than any of the other 27 wealthy countries, according to a new report from the Centers for Disease Control. Could these increases in infertility and infant mortality rates have anything to do with glyphosate?

Pedersen has documented his findings in farm studies. He has presented his finding to the Danish Parliament and other agencies. He has been interviewed on television and other media outlets, and has traveled abroad speaking about his findings and will continue to speak up about the dangers of GMOs and glyphosate.

Pedersen will be a witness for the people in the People vs. Monsanto Tribunal being held in Hague in the Netherlands, starting on October 14, 2016. The Tribunal will be based on the “Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights” adopted by the United Nations in 2011. It will be an international court of lawyers and judges that will assess the potential criminal liability of Monsanto for damages inflicted on human health and the environment. He and many other witnesses will testify regarding Monsanto’s crimes against humanity.
