Standing Rock: Warfare Against Peaceful People
A peaceful crowd of water protectors at the Oceti Sakowin camp, one of the three camps at Standing Rock, were met with tear gas, rubber bullets, a water cannon, water hoses, percussion grenades and LRADs (long-range acoustic devices that cause people to vomit). The people stood their ground in a courageous effort to protect their right to have clean water and protect the environment.
We spoke with Zen Honeycutt of Moms Across America (listen here) who was at the bridge last night, the scene of much violence against a peaceful crowd. There were 167 injuries reported and the Morton County Police Department needs to be held accountable for their actions against people who only want their rights to have a clean water supply.
Honeycutt gives us an account of what transpired last evening and into the early hours of the morning. This interview may move you to tears but please take action. This history-making event tells a story of corporate greed, police brutality but more importantly, a story of the courage, tenacity of the indigenous people and others who are willing to stand up for their rights and to protect the earth.
