Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.) and Rep. Peter DeFazio\u00a0(D-Ore.) introduced Bills to the Senate and House of Representatives that would require food manufacturers to clearly label any product containing genetically engineered ingredients. This peer-reviewed study was published on April 18, 2013\u00a0in the scientific journal, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mdpi.com\/1099-4300\/15\/4\/1416\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Entropy<\/em><\/a>.\u00a0The study found evidence that\u00a0indicates residues of &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Glyphosate\" target=\"_blank\">glyphosate<\/a>,&#8221; the\u00a0main ingredient in Roundup weed killer, which is sprayed over millions of acres of crops, has been found in food.\u00a0Those residues enhance the damaging effects of other food-borne chemical residues and toxins in the environment to disrupt normal body functions and induce disease according to this study. The report authored by Stephanie Seneff, a research scientist at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and Anthony Samsel, a retired science consultant from Arthur D. Little, Inc. The FDA first announced that it was considering the approval of a GE salmon in August 2010.\u00a0 If approved, it would be the first-ever GE animal permitted for human consumption in the U.S.\u00a0 The Center for Food Safety further reports that the market has already started to reject GE salmon. Supermarket chains with more than 2,500 grocery stores across the country have committed not to sell GE seafood should it come to market and 260 chefs across the country have signed on to a\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/chefscollaborative.org\/2013\/04\/08\/last-call-raise-your-voice-about-ge-salmon\/\" target=\"_blank\">letter by Chefs Collaborative\u00a0<\/a>objecting to the transgenic fish. The Center for Food Safety reports\u00a0that a <a href=\"http:\/\/donyoung.house.gov\/news\/documentsingle.aspx?DocumentID=331310\" target=\"_blank\">new bill, the PEGASUS Act, has been introduced in Congress <\/a>by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/RepDonYoung?ref=ts\" target=\"_blank\">Rep. They requested that GMO\u00a0products be removed from Abbott&#8217;s natural products, which includes Similac, until further long-term studies have been completed.
