The Food Integrity Now team interviewed Mendy Heaps, a Colorado Middle School Teacher who made national headlines when she decided to do something about the poor quality of food being served in the school cafeteria. She started a selling healthy snacks to students from a “fruit cart” and began urging positive changes to the school lunch program. Despite a positive reaction from students and parents, there was much resistance from school staff and administration. She received threats from co-workers, union management, and ultimately received a “cease and desist” letter from the school’s principal for her actions. Many would have stopped and shut their mouths at this point, but not Mendy, she took her story nationwide. Join us for this interesting interview with Mendy who is taking a stand for our kids.

Susan, Carol and Matt interviewed Mark Duvall, co-owner of Whole in the Wall Herb Shoppe, about Asyra Bioenergetic Testing. Mark discussed the principles and history of homeopathy, a widely used and accepted modality of healing in Europe. He describes how the Asyra machine incorporates aspects of homeopathy with principles of acupuncture to test for physical issues with the body, food sensitivities, environmental sensitivities, nutritional needs, hormonal balance, toxin response and emotional stressors. Based on the individual’s diagnosis, the Asyra creates a homeopathic remedy to assist in releasing toxins and balancing the physical and emotional bodies.

Mark and Nancy Duvall own The Whole in Wall Herb Shoppe located in Woodland Park, CO.

Matt, Susan and Carol interviewed Charlotte Gerson from the Gerson Institute. The Gerson Institute was founded by Charlotte Gerson (Dr. Max Gerson’s daughter) in 1977. The Gerson Therapy is a safe, natural treatment developed by Dr. Max Gerson in the 1920’s that uses organic foods, juicing, coffee enemas, detoxification and natural supplements to activate the body’s ability to heal itself.  Over the past 60 years, thousands of people have used the Gerson Therapy to recover from so-called “incurable” diseases such as cancer, diabetes, heart disease and arthritis. The Gerson method advocates that you have the power to heal yourself. Charlotte is extremely passionate about carrying on the work of her father and we think you will enjoy this interesting interview.

We all know about the ongoing disaster caused by the explosion of the Deepwater Horizon oil rig in the Gulf of Mexico. While the experts continue to debate how to plug the leak, not many are talking about the effects of the chemicals released both by the oil and the toxic dispersants being used to cover it up. Reports have shown that Corexit, the main dispersant being used by BP is four times more toxic than the oil in the water. Dispersants don’t even clean up the oil, they just spread it out. What effect will this have on fish, human health and the future of our oceans? What other alternatives exist for cleaning up the spill without the toxicity?

Join Carol Grieve’, Susan Wright and special guest, Mike Schott, CNC to find out.

Once a month in elementary school, the teacher passed out cups of glowing green liquid that tasted like slime and was supposed to be good for our teeth. It was called “swish and spit” and every child was forced to do it unless his/her parents wrote a note. The nasty taste of that vile stuff is burned into the memories of my taste buds forever. We are told that fluoride is good for our teeth and it is put in our water, but what is it?

Alan Drobnak of 2012yayas.com has been doing extensive research into this topic and it turns out it affects a lot more than just your teeth. This toxic chemical is a by-product of aluminum production and has many detrimental effects on the human mind and body. Fluoride micro-crystals clog the the pineal gland and affects consciousness. As well as being a primary ingredient in Sarin nerve gas and pesticides, fluoride was originally used in Nazi concentration camps to promote passivity amongst the prisoners. The promotion of fluoride as beneficial to human health was a dupe by one of the most clever marketers of our time and is in much more than just your water and toothpaste. Join us for this groundbreaking show as Alan puts it all together and tells us why we should care and what we can do to cleanse and protect our bodies from fluoride.

Who would have thought that it would take a volcano to emphasize the importance of eating locally sourced foods? The air traffic grounding as a result of massive ash clouds spewing from Iceland’s Eyjafjallajokull volcano is taking a toll on businesses that rely on the airlines for their imports and exports. Much of Europe’s vegetable, fruit and flower supply are normally flown in from Africa at this time of the year; depending on when this mess gets cleared up, grocery supplies for these items may be scarce.

Since last Thursday, more than 63,000 flights have been cancelled, leaving more than two million passengers wondering when they might get to their destination. Already, 25 tons of fresh fish bound for Boston and valued at $320,000 had to be diverted to another market. Paramount Export Co. of California was unable to ship a $400,000 shipment of fresh fruit and vegetables to the Middle East. While they will try to sell the produce locally a representative from the company stated this will ultimately cost the company a million dollars.

The last time Eyjafjallajokull erupted was in 1821 and it lasted two years. We do not have data as to how much of this period was spent under clouds of ash, but if history repeats itself, it plausible that our new friend will stick around until 2012. The amount of ash emitted from a volcano is linked to it’s activity level and recent reports indicate that the volcano has calmed.

Airports re-opened today but many still debate the safety of flying through these clouds of debris. This BBC article illustrates the potential damage caused by volcanic ash in jet engines. Upon entering engine, the ash melts and forms a glassy coating which clogs the fuel and cooling system. In 1982, two jumbo jets fell out fof the sky when all of their engines stalled in mid-air as a result of flying through volcanic ash. The pilots were eventually able to get the engines started, but the windshield was so badly abraded the landing had to be conducted with instruments only.

With a boom and a poof, we are beginning to see how fragile our global market really is. We have come to take jetting for granted, a necessity in our fast-paced shrinking world. All on this planet have been changing much as individuals and societies these past few years and recent events indicate mother Earth is making some big changes herself. Her message is clear, change now because more change is coming. Are we going to change voluntarily or will change be forced to change us?

Carol and Susan host special guest Charlotte Gerson, founder of The Gerson Institute. Charlotte’s father, Dr. Max Gerson, discovered a cure for cancer and other diseases using diet and nutrition over 60 years ago. Dr. Gerson died in 1959 and Charlotte continues to get the message out about the Gerson Therapy. She has spoken all over the world about this method and has been featured in the movie “The Beautiful Truth”. She has been interviewed by numerous radio and television hosts, including the Oprah show. We are excited to have Charlotte as our guest. She is candid, direct and passionate about Dr. Gerson’s work.

If you have cancer or know anyone with cancer, you won’t want to miss this show.

Carol and Susan interview Mike Schott, Certified Nutritional Consultant, as he talks about his remarkable results treating autism and ADHD with nutrition. The focus of Mike’s work is getting to the cause of the condition and not simply treating the symptoms. Mike discusses how an excess of toxicities found in the environment and in our foods inhibits proper brain and body functioning.  He stresses the importance of keeping refined sugars to a minimum, the necessity of fish oils for proper brain function, and the use of chelation to remove toxicity from the body. If you have or know an autistic child, you need to listen to this.

For many years, the FDA has taken a lackadaisical approach to monitoring food labels. I am all for promoting truth in food labeling, so I was interested to hear that the FDA has finally started waking up and investigating this issue. Their investigation resulted in 17 companies being sent warning letters about 22 food products. What did they find?

That labeling of Organic Flax Plus Multibran cereal as an “excellent source of omega-3+” is illegal. Does it really contain omega 3+? Sure it does, but this nutrient claim has not been approved for food products. The FDA also knocked down green tea, pomegranate juice, and purple carrots products claiming to have benefits in treating, preventing, and curing cancer. Regardless of promising studies showing the efficacy of these foods on cancer, the FDA is firm on shutting down any alternative cancer treatments that take business away from the chemotherapy industry. History is filled with incidences of the FDA dropping the block on alternative cancer cures, including this one recently reported on Natural News.

The FDA has been increasingly receiving pressure to do it’s job and promote truth in food labeling, so it waddled over to the infested garden that is our country’s food source and merely re-arranged some twigs. Should one not raise a suspect eyebrow at the absence of the meat and dairy industries from this wave of warnings? Perhaps we should look at the recently appointed “senior advisor to the commissioner” of the FDA, Michael Taylor, a former Monsanto executive. Monsanto GM corn dominates the corn industry and in turn dominates the animal-feed industry. The rise of e.coli is due to corn causing acidosis in cattle. Many already know that ammonia is used in beef processing to kill the e.coli bacteria. Should not truth in labeling mean that ammonia used in beef processing be listed as an ingredient? The truth is that requiring ammonia to be listed as such in the ingredients would eventually force a massive restructuring of the beef industry away from corn that would have devastating effects on Monsanto’s annual report.

Maybe I should cut the FDA a little slack and acknowledge that they are just starting to wake up from years of turning a selective blind eye. But it sure seems they are doing everything possible to make people believe that drugs will make you healthy and food is just for filling up your stomach.
