Zen Honeycutt Addresses Monsanto Shareholders – Stop Poisoning our Children!

Zen Honeycutt, Founder of Moms Across America and an unstoppable mom, spoke to Monsanto’s Shareholders at their headquarters in St. Louis last Friday, January 30. With the help of the Organic Consumers Association and John Harrington of Harrington Investments ( a shareholder), Zen was able to represent Harrington and attend the meeting of its shareholders. This meeting was held to address and vote on a referendum which would give shareholders access proxy to vote on their Board of Directors. The proxy passed with a 53% yes vote! This proxy was advisory and not compulsory proxy. However, Lisa from SumOfUs stood up and asked after it passed, which put Hugh Grant, Monsanto’s CEO for over a decade, on the spot, asking whether he would implement it. Mr. Grant rambled on about how they are always engaged in discussion and increasing the dialogue between shareholders and the board.

This was a historic meeting which in essence allowed a mom to speak up on behalf of her children and children around the world about the impact of these toxic chemicals. When I spoke with Zen today, she shared how she addressed Hugh Grant and how he responded to her claims saying that Glyphosate has been tested and is safe. When I asked about how well she thought her message was received, she responded that as she was leaving the room, some of the shareholders nodded their heads in approval and one even congratulated her while she was visiting the restroom.

Later the same day, The Wall Street Journal, one of the most-trusted financial papers in the world, wrote an article about Monsanto’s Shareholders Meeting. They quoted Zen:

“I’m imploring you to choose a new direction,” said Zen Honeycutt, founder of Moms Across America, who spoke at length. “Stop poisoning our children.”

Zen’s ability as an educator about Glyphosate and GMOs is extraordinary and she is one of the most passionate speakers I know on this subject! In the short amount of time that she was alloted during the meeting (3 minutes), she was able to explain the dangers of these toxic chemicals in a highly-informative way that surely left an impression on the those who attended the Shareholders’ Meeting.

  1. Zen Honeycutt & Carol Grieve,
    RE: Feeding the World.

Thanks Zen for articulating our common cause over Monsanto’s GMO’s, Round-up etc. I believe Indigene Community’s work in understanding & applying ‘indigenous’ (Latin ‘self-generating’) Polyculture Orchard food growing traditions can help take your work to a deeper level.
Its entirely important that those wanting to recapture a natural organic food supply, become familiar with all humanity’s ancient worldwide ‘indigenous’ (Latin ‘self-generating’) Polyculture Orchard practices. Only as humanity adopted 2-dimensional ‘agriculture’ (Latin ‘ager’ = ‘field’) over 7,000 years, did once rich abundant Polyculture ecologies for humans & all species become destroyed.

3-D polyculture tree canopies & every other level of bush, vine, herb, vegetable, mushroom, lichen etc photosynthesize 92 – 98% of solar energy converted into abundant food, materials, energy & water cycle. Such complete absorption of solar energy creates cold spots on the continents which draw warm-moist ocean winds inland. 60% of water transfer from ocean to continent is through condensation of moisture upon trillions of square kilometres of leaf surface. Only 40% of moisture falls as rain/snow. Agriculture photosynthesizes only 2 – 8% of solar energy pushing winds from continent towards the sea & creating desert. Tree roots descend 10s of metres deep into the earth’s substrate pumping water, mining minerals & creating extensive life nutrient colonies. Agricultural roots descend only short centimetres leaving the earth hard-packed & life-less.

These & many more factors enable 3-D Polyculture to produce 100 times (10,000%) more food, materials, energy & water-cycle than 2-D Agriculture. Research into indigenous Agroforestry, Permaculture, Forest-Gardens, Natural-Farming & Polyculture all show massive increases in productivity aded by the natural propensities of all species.

The issue of biosphere, species & abundance loss started with colonial 2-D colonial organic world. In human created destruction, scarcity & insecurity, people justify oppression of each other as well as working against nature to ‘make-a-dying’ (consider the Grim Reaper) on a once abundant earth where all humanity’s indigenous ancestors would work one hour per day average. Indigene Community is organized according to celebrating & living humanity’s indigenous worldwide practices of abundance, peace, livelihood & welcome for all. Monsanto is just following an old destructive pattern deeper than its violations of natural-science. https://sites.google.com/site/indigenecommunity/design/1-indigenous-welcome-orchard-food-production-efficiencies
