Military Food Testing

Food Integrity Now spoke with Zen Honeycutt of Moms Across America regarding the recent testing that Moms Across America initiated of our nation’s military food. The military food testing results are in and they are not good.

Moms Across America has been the leading organization that has initiated food testing of fast foods, school lunches, and you can find those results and interviews on Food Integrity Now too.

You would think that our military personnel, who could be risking their lives for us, would need the best nutrition to be able to do their job and function well both physically and mentally. Given these results, it makes us wonder how many of our veterans who have PTSD might have been helped by having a nutritious diet with enough minerals and vitamins. We know that a lack of certain vitamins, for example, like B3, has been shown to create depression when people lack this important nutrient. Niacin (Vitamin B3) deficiency is strongly linked to depression and other psychiatric symptoms. Low levels of niacin can impair the production of serotonin, a key neurotransmitter that regulates mood, leading to symptoms like depression, anxiety, and fatigue.

The food tested showed that 95% of the military food samples detected harmful levels of glyphosate and other pesticides produced in China and other countries. 65% of the pesticides found in the cafeteria food are manufactured primarily in China. This is unacceptable!

They also found veterinary drugs that are banned in most countries or are not approved for human use. Four out of five of these drugs are produced in China!

Heavy metals at high levels were found in 100% of the food tested. Zen discussed those levels and what we suspect might be the cause of such high levels, especially aluminum. PFOS (which are forever chemicals) were detected in their beef stew, and those levels were approximately 30 times higher than the EPA’s drinking water standard.

This testing is a wake-up call to this administration to do something about not only our military food but the food that is served to our children for school lunches, food served in our prisons and are overall food system.. Zen informed us that some steps have been taken to change the current quality of the military food recently. Fort Bragg is now serving more whole foods, and the changes there have been well-received by our military personnel. This needs to happen at all our bases. Allowing our military or any of our citizens to consume food that has chemicals produced in China is a tragedy, unacceptable, and certainly calls for change. Zen offers information on how you can help and take action to request that this administration implement the much-needed changes. Also, please consider helping Moms Across America by donating. One thing you can do is to listen to the interview and share this with everyone. Together we can affect change but if we do nothing, it will not change. We can do this! Thank you for listening to the podcast below or on Spotify or Apple Itunes.

Thank you for being here and being part of the change. Please help support Food Integrity Now by going to our health store for some of your nutritional needs or by purchasing Carol’s book, You Are Not Your Issue. We have been doing this work for 16 years now, and we appreciate you very much!
