What Does Beauty Feel Like?
Rosie and I chatted this week about what is beauty—more importantly, what does beauty feel like? We were both considered to be beautiful as children or so we were told. People would come up to me and say, “Wow, you are beautiful.” I talk about this in this podcast and how it didn’t jive with how I was feeling. I certainly didn’t feel beautiful. Rosie’s experience is very much the same. She thought, certainly if I am beautiful, shouldn’t I feel it, on the inside, when people compliment me? She only felt an emptiness and that people weren’t seeing her on the inside, only on the outside.
For me, being beautiful means being authentic and eating the foods that support beauty from the inside out. I feel most beautiful when I feel healthy and have a thriving mindset. But it seems important to feel beautiful no matter what our circumstances are. Well, that’s the goal. Asking ourselves what does beauty feel like versus what does beauty look like, might be a good place to start. Questioning whether we are following someone else’s dictates on what is beautiful might be something else to ponder.
Rosie shared that we want to be seen, heard and gotten. We want people to see beyond the physical look, to who is inside! Whether we consider ourselves beautiful or not, we want to be seen, heard and gotten. And, bottom line, each and every one of us has to see, hear and get ourselves, beyond our looks! What happens when we do truly listen, see and get who we are inside? We come to experience ourselves as beautiful! Funny how that happens!
To thrive on the inside, we have to come to see the beauty of our being regardless of what our physical reality is. As we age, the inevitable with more wrinkles and sagging may occur. Kiss your body and heart and say thank you! Or, look at yourself in the mirror and see your true beauty. We are all aging but we don’t have to grow old. We have a choice and seeing aging in a new way can be beautiful!
